Forward Deployed Engineer – Software (m/f/d)

Engineering in Europe is undergoing a radical shift. Many companies are trying to lift 1990s systems into the cloud and bolt “a bit of AI” on top. But that doesn’t solve the real problem: variants are still created manually across tool boundaries—and engineers lose time in repetitive loops. wailand is building an AI platform that rethinks the variant creation process end to end: cross-system, context-aware, and agent-orchestrated. As a Forward Deployed Engineer (Software), you’re not a handoff point—you’re the force in the field: you bring our platform into real toolchains, work with real product data, and provide critical input that shapes our product development.
Your mission
You deliver concrete automation use cases with customers—from initial problem discovery through to production deployment.
You integrate wailand into heterogeneous system landscapes (e.g., PLM/ERP/CAx, files, APIs) and build robust interfaces instead of brittle point-to-point workarounds.
You model and implement workflows and agent orchestration (tool calls, state logic, failure paths, observability) so automation runs reliably.
You build context pipelines (structured and unstructured data, retrieval, semantic indices/graph/vector systems) so AI performs reliably in real-world conditions.
You iterate closely with engineers on the customer side: “What’s costing you time?” → “What do we automate next?”
You feed insights back into the product team: what needs to improve in the platform so the next customer goes live twice as fast?
What you bring
You’re a software engineer with a strong delivery mindset: you ship, you debug, you stabilize.
You have experience with integrations (APIs, events, data pipelines, auth, monitoring) and can bring integrations into production reliably.
You can bring AI systems into real processes pragmatically—iteratively, measurably, and without waiting for “perfect data.”
You like working close to customers—not to run workshop marathons or produce slide decks, but to implement automation and get it live in production.
You communicate clearly, make decisions, and take ownership—even when things aren’t perfectly specified.
You want to work in a high-performance culture with high talent density—high ownership, high standards.
