Mechanical Engineer – Engineering Software (m/f/d)
Remote in Germany

Engineering software has been around for decades—yet many companies still struggle with the same problems. PLM implementations take years, systems become heavily customized, and major updates often feel like re-implementations. Many mid-sized industrial companies still don’t have PLM at all—because solutions are too complex, too expensive, or technologically outdated. We’re building a new approach. wailand is developing an AI-native platform for engineering processes—across tools, modular, context-aware, and agent-orchestrated. To build this, we need more than “just” software engineers. We need someone who understands the reality of industrial engineering, knows why things fail in practice, and wants to build something that works this time. If you’ve worked with PLM and CAD systems for years—maybe even helped implement or customize them—and you think deeply about product structures, modularization, and configuration, this role could be for you.
Your mission
You bring deep engineering domain knowledge into the product team.
You help our developers understand what engineers truly need—rather than mirroring historically grown systems.
You define modern approaches with us for:
Product structures and variant logic
Modularization and configuration
BOM models (EBOM/MBOM)
Change processes and versioning
You challenge established PLM architectures—especially monolithic, relational data models—and rethink them with us.
You support pre-sales conversations and explain to decision-makers why an AI-native approach is a real alternative to traditional PLM.
You support early implementation phases and help translate real engineering processes into our platform.
You build trust—because you speak the language of designers, systems engineers, and PLM owners.
Internally, you’re a sparring partner—and externally, a translator between industry reality and modern architecture.
What you bring
Several years of experience with PLM and/or CAD systems (e.g., at a PLM vendor, system integrator, or in industry).
Deep understanding of:
Product structures
Variant management
Configuration logic
Change management
Engineering data models
Ideally, hands-on experience in design or day-to-day engineering work.
You know first-hand why traditional PLM implementations take years.
You understand the limits of relational data models in engineering contexts.
You recognize that many companies don’t have PLM—not out of ignorance, but because existing solutions don’t fit.
You don’t want to defend yet another legacy system.
You want to build something that truly strengthens European industry.
If you’ve been struggling with PLM systems for years—and you know how much knowledge is trapped in today’s processes, but rarely get the chance to rethink things from scratch—then we should talk.
Email us at career@wailand.io. Tell us what frustrates you about today’s systems and how you’d build them differently.
We believe diverse teams build better systems. That’s why we welcome people with different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. What matters to us is competence, ownership, and attitude—regardless of gender, origin, religion, sexual identity, age, or disability.
