AI Engineer (f/m/d)
Remote in Germany

Many talk about AI. We build systems that make it scalable. At wailand, we’re building an AI platform for industrial engineering—agent-orchestrated, context-aware, and deeply integrated into real toolchains. No gimmicks. No demo apps. Just production-grade systems for complex technical processes. As an AI Engineer, you don’t just build prompts or prototypes. You build robust, scalable AI systems—from RAG pipelines and tool calling to agent orchestration and production integration into industrial workflows. If you’re excited not just to experiment with AI and LLMs, but to turn them into reliable systems that run in the real world, this is your role.
Your mission
You build AI services that solve real industrial problems and are grounded in current research and best practices.
You create production-ready LLM workflows (RAG, tool calling, agent frameworks).
You design and implement retrieval architectures (embeddings, vector stores, hybrid search).
You orchestrate agent-based systems with state management, tool integration, and observability.
You evaluate models systematically (offline evaluation, benchmarks, prompt testing, guardrails).
You integrate LLMs into scalable backend systems (e.g., Python/FastAPI, Kotlin/Java, gRPC).
You work with vector databases (e.g., OpenSearch, Weaviate, Pinecone, or similar) and structure knowledge context.
You build robust data pipelines for structured and unstructured engineering data.
You ensure AI components run in a scalable, secure, and reproducible way (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD).
You work closely with software engineers and architects to integrate AI systematically—not as a standalone add-on.
What you bring
Several years of experience in Machine Learning or AI Engineering.
Hands-on experience integrating LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, open-source models).
Strong understanding of RAG, embeddings, prompt design, evaluation, and model limitations.
Proficiency in Python and relevant frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar).
Understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and production-grade software development.
Experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL) and ideally vector stores.
You think in systems—not in prompts.
You cut through hype and build robust, reliable solutions.
You want to implement AI in a clean, sustainable way over the long term.
If you want to make AI productive—not just demo it—and build systems that truly improve engineering processes, then we should talk.

We believe diverse teams make better decisions and build stronger systems. That’s why we welcome people with different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. What matters to us is competence, ownership, and attitude—regardless of gender, origin, religion, sexual identity, age, or disability.
